Auntie Glo

Yet another passing, this time on my father’s sister Gloria Martin.
Aunt Glo was quite a character, a real “Auntie Mame”.

As I think back I realize all of the interesting moments we shared.
She bought me my first good suit…
(Ironically I’m going to pick up a new suit this very day and will wear it to her funeral. I think she’d like that.)
…early on she gave me a job and a place to live, co-signed for a car, I even stayed with her again for a bit when I came back from one touring company gig.
In short, she was there for me in those days.
And what an outstanding cook!
Our family meals back then were full of food AND fun.
Here’s one of my favorite pictures:

So many stories to tell.
She was married in mid-life to one of my very favorite people in the whole world, artist and raconteur:

Charlie Martin.
Uncle Charlie doesn’t just “talk the talk” when it comes to caring for those he loves. He “walks the walk,” in good times and bad.

Take my advice. Grab a camcorder or tape recorder and let the older generation in your family re-tell all those stories that have made you roll your eyes over the years. Believe me if you don’t, you WILL miss those nuggets of information, and a large part of your heritage will simply fade away.
A part that is not captured in census documents.

Farewell Auntie… Give ‘em all my love up there.
